There are certain life transitions where guidance can often be found simply by browsing online. For example, navigating parenting can be comforting, especially when you realize that others are facing similar challenges.

However, some significant changes call for deeper exploration, which is often best found in a good book. When I was pregnant with our son Oscar, who is now 16, I sought out pregnancy books to help me understand the many bodily changes I was experiencing.

During times when life felt overwhelming, I also turned to modern self-help books. Some challenges require wisdom that can only be gained through thoughtful reading or listening to books; rather than quick insights.

Perimenopause and menopause are no exceptions; often referred to as “the change of life” for good reason, these stages mark a substantial transition. Our energy can decrease, our patience can thin, and our sleep can be disrupted—not by our kids this time, but by fluctuating hormones.

This journey can last several years. While perimenopause may only last a few years, I began experiencing it at the age of 37! In some cases, it can extend for up to a decade. Now, at 54, I only just stopped having periods in 2024. Through my research and the many books I explored, I felt compelled to share the valuable insights I found most helpful.

This is why I recommend picking up a book or two. On a personal note, I suffered from debilitating migraines, hoping my doctors would provide clarity, but that wasn’t the case. It was only when my menstrual cycle stopped that both the migraines and severe facial pain ceased.

No two women experience perimenopause and menopause in the same way. However, if you’re looking to gain a better understanding of these transitions or seek solutions for accompanying symptoms, consider exploring some insightful books on the topic.

While reading might not provide a cure, it can help you gain a deeper understanding. Click on the author to discover there books and become empowered.
