We use an ophthalmically approved preservative called Benzyl Alcohol DHA. Meaning this is approved for use around the eyes. Our products do not contain multiple preservation systems as we prefer not to use harsh artificial ingredients.

Our preservative Benzyl DHA Alcohol is approved under the Soil Association, unlike other common preservatives such as Phenoxyethanol and Parabens, which are not permitted in Soil Association Formulations. Top tip: When you're trialling a new Skin-rg skincare product alongside other skincare products, it is essential to patch-test them first to ensure that you will not have an allergic reaction. 

We advise that when using Skin-rg products, it is best to refrain from using other products or minimise their usage. 

Why do you recommend not using other products alongside Skin-rg?

There are two main reasons: 

1. We cannot be sure what is contained inside other manufacturers of skincare products, which could result in you reacting. 

For example, we use a pharmaceutical grade Vitamin C inside Phoenix Super C, a high dose of 15%. However, if other types of Vitamin C are contained inside other skincare you are using, such as synthetic vitamin C or synthetic retinol, you could be, without even knowing, creating an allergic reaction in your skin. So our advice is to stop using other products for at least 48 hours before using them and then try Skin-rg.

Top Tip Be mindful with Retinols that they thin the skin which lead to sensitivity. Even if you have never been sensitive before you can over years suddenly find your self not tolearating products which could be through retinol sensitivity. Look for alternatives like The Matrix Plant Retinol which is ideal for skin that has become easily upset.

What is a skincare patch test?

A patch test is a simple way of checking whether your skin will react to new products such as cosmetics, soaps, moisturisers, or topical medications. Patch testing is a common way to check for a variety of allergies.

Why is a skincare patch test important?

You should patch-test a product before you use it to avoid the potential severity of an allergic reaction. Allergies can cause anything from minor redness to painful swelling or worse. Patch testing is essential because it will help you ensure that you can safely use a new skincare product.

How to patch-test a skincare product

Patch testing is simple. Remember that you'll need to set some time aside if you want to do your patch test properly. Follow the steps below.

1.)Use a Clear Patch of Skin

Choose an accessible and clear skin patch to test whatever the product is. It should be somewhere you can comfortably leave alone for up to 24 hours. The skin around the crook of your elbow is an excellent example of the kind of area you can use.

2.)Wash the area first

Wash and clean the patch of skin you're going to use first. Do not use any of your usual skincare products. Use a plain body wash on the area. If there is a reaction, you will want to be sure it's the new product you applied and not something else. So make sure to clean the area before you begin.

3.)Apply a small amount to the skin

Apply a small amount of the product to the patch of skin you've chosen, and cover the area with a plaster/dressing (a make you have used before).

4.)Wait 24 Hours

Now it's time to wait. Ideally, 24 hours should pass before removing the dressing. However, if you experience pain, burning, or itching, you should remove the bandage and wash the affected area immediately.

What You're Looking For

It will be easy to tell if you're allergic to the product. When you first remove the bandaid, you may notice some pink or red colour from the bandaid itself, but this should fade after a short while. If the redness does not disappear, you may have a mild allergy.

If the skin is red, raised, itchy, or covered with a rash, you likely have an allergy to the product. If you're unsure or have had reactions to skincare products, it's a good idea to talk to your therapist or contact us and or your doctor.

Instead, we prefer to give you fantastic value rather than a high water product that "costs less" in the short term but will cost more in the long term, not only to your skin but also to your pocket.

As a general rule of thumb, use half of what you would typically and in fact, if you find its not absorbing you need to use less. Begin with half a pump and then add more if you need it.

Top tip: Whatever you do, do not open it! Just gently tap it on a hard surface and pump until the product comes out.

Why does this happen? As frustrating as it can be, each product is filled by hand, not machine. On rare occasions, air locks can occur, and of course, it is instinctive to open the bottle to see why. But that can cause the pump to stop working altogether.

I opened the pump. What can I do? Place the pump back on the product, tap it firmly on the side and press the dispenser. Do this until you begin to see the product moving upwards.
